What About Shrimp?

Shrimp is America's most popular seafood import, but you won't find any shrimp recipes on these pages. Most wild shrimp are caught using destructive fishing practices that tear up ocean habitat and kill tons of unwanted fish, and most shrimp farms destroy natural swamps and wetlands and pollute the environment with antibiotics and pesticides. In restaurants, trap-caught spot prawns are a good choice, but you're unlikely to find these at your local market. Some companies are making encouraging progress in reducing the harmful impacts of shrimp fishing (learn more here), but for now, we suggest saving shrimp for special occasions.
