Margo Pellegrino is paddling from Miami to New Orleans to 'Save Our Seas'. See more photos.

Margo Pellegrino – not a professional athlete, but an ordinary mother of two from New Jersey – has paddled more than 2,500 miles of America's coast to inspire her children and others to take an active role in the stewardship of our oceans.

This spring, Margo embarks on her third voyage – and second in partnership with NRDC – carrying messages in a bottle from concerned Americans urging Congress to 'Save Our Seas' as global warming and ocean acidification intensify the silent crisis facing our oceans.

Margo will paddle her outrigger canoe more than one thousand miles from Florida’s Atlantic coast to New Orleans, collecting S.O.S. messages from residents who want to urge their representatives to protect, preserve and restore our oceans for future generations.

We need leadership in Washington to create the policies that will help preserve our coastal economic engines and natural treasures. At the end of her voyage Margo will deliver these S.O.S. messages to members of Congress, who are considering comprehensive healthy oceans legislation as well as legislation to fight global warming and promote clean energy.
